The case
Three sizes, one design.
Hamilton makes the Khaki Field Mechanical in stainless steel, in 36, 38 and 42 mm; it describes the 42 mm case as sandblasted. This page follows the black dial through all three; Hamilton also sells the watch in other dial colours and finishes.
The sizes are not simply scaled: the 36 has an acrylic crystal and is rated to 100 metres, while the 38 and 42 have a sapphire crystal and are rated to 50. The table below sets them side by side.
The movement
H-50, wound by hand.
There is no rotor. The H-50 is wound with the crown, turned clockwise, and Hamilton states a power reserve of up to 80 hours, roughly a weekend and then some.
Hamilton developed the H-50 for its hand-wound watches. Its balance spring is Nivachron, an alloy Hamilton says reduces the effect of magnetic fields, temperature and shock on accuracy.
The dial
Twenty-four hours, plain.
A black dial with large white numerals for the hours and a smaller inner ring counting 13 to 24, in the manner of the military field watches this one is modelled on. Hamilton describes it as a faithful recreation of its 1960s original.
It is meant to be read at a glance, in poor light, without thought.
